Why Become a Chartered Surveyor in Dubai?

/ / Uncategorized

An oasis in the desert, Dubai is known for its superior standard of living, modern architecture, fancy hotels, luxury shopping, world’s tallest building, and lively nightlife. It’s also a land of opportunities to do business and for professionals to build careers with multinational companies. Well, this is my short elevator pitch for a larger-than-life city and here’s my success story written on its golden sands.

I came to Dubai from <candidate target country> 12 years ago as a young professional with two years’ work experience in Building Survey and many dreams. Before we delve into my professional journey, let’s see how this splendid city welcomed me.

My Living Experience in Dubai

I distinctly remember my very first impression of Dubai – everything was process driven, clean, and efficient. In this truly global city, I saw people from different countries and diverse cultures who made it their home. Moreover, people here have always been hardworking and helpful. There was an immediate comforting feeling in my heart about this new place.

As time went by, I learned more cool things about Dubai:

  • It’s an extremely expat friendly city with over 80% of the population comprising of foreigners.
  • It’s easy to get a visa and residency. You can also sponsor your spouse, children, and parents. There’s also a new long-term residence visa introduced called Golden Visa.
  • It’s very safe and virtually crime-free city. Fun fact – Dubai police force chases criminals, if any, in supercars such as Ferrari FF, Lamborghini Aventador, Aston Martin One-77, and Bugatti Veyron!
  • The weather is hot for a couple of months but sunny and pleasant for the rest of the year. And you have the water parks, ski slopes, amazing indoor malls, and countless restaurants to beat the heat.
  • As far as food and cuisine go, every popular food chain in the world has a branch in here.
  • Commute is super easy. The city has the longest automated metro in the world and there are cabs available all the time.
  • There’s no income tax. Yes, you read it right – zero tax on attractive salaries!
  • Apart from tourism, real estate industry drives the economy. There’s never-ending development of innovative properties and buildings. You’ll see a crazy number of cranes at work all across.

My Working Experience in Dubai

The last two points mentioned above mainly influenced my decision to choose Dubai to build a career. I started as an <Associate Surveyor> in the real estate domain. I worked with the world’s leading construction companies over these years and built a dream life with my family here. I worked as a <Project Manager> with an esteemed Fortune 500 company. Here’s what I observed and learned on the professional front – somethings you could use if you’re finding your real estate dream job in Dubai:

  • There’s good exposure for professionals in the Surveying domain.
  • Many international companies such as CBRE, JLL, KF, C&W, Savills, and Big 4 operate in Dubai. There are a number of local companies too such as Land Sterling, CM, ValueStrat, and CORE.
  • Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) is well established here and therefore, many accredited education universities are also present.
  • It’s an investor-friendly place and the laws here favor foreign ownership.
  • Investors from around the world are attracted to Dubai and hence the real estate market is iconic and diverse.
  • Buying and selling is easy as there’s no red tape and bureaucracy. The process of transacting a property is straightforward and gets smoothly registered in the system.
  • There’s transfer fee but no property or inheritance tax.
  • The investment returns in Dubai are higher when compared to other established international markets. There are properties here that guarantee a certain level of return, which is at times as high as 8%. Other popular investment destinations such as UK, Singapore, and India give only 2-4% yields.
  • People can own some of the popular world addresses such as Burj Khalifa and Palm Jumeirah. And as a Surveyor, you may get involved in valuation of trophy assets and interact with global leaders.

I’m sure that after learning these things and knowing about my success story, you’ll be excited to explore this luxurious place. This extravagant and lavish city is waiting for you. So, go select a reputed recruitment and placement agency, get your dream job, pack your bags, and come over to explore this beauty!
